Dr. Alrifai is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics and Biomedical Informatics, a board-certified neonatologist in the Division of Neonatology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC), and a board-certified clinical informatician in the Department of Biomedical Informatics. He holds a master’s degree in applied clinical informatics.

 As a VUMC Associate Chief Medical Information Officer, Dr. Alrifai leads informatics operations at Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital. His research focuses on clinical decision support (CDS) and predictive modeling for neonatal and pediatric care, as well as the objective assessment of illness severity and provider workload. He has designed and published randomized clinical trials evaluating clinical information systems in neonatal care and currently leads multiple ongoing trials of CDS tools. Dr. Alrifai has an established record of funded research evaluating health information technology.
