Julian Genkins, MD, is a clinical informatician, primary care physician, and educator at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he serves as Assistant Professor in the Division of General Internal Medicine and the Department of Biomedical Informatics. He is the Program Director of the Vanderbilt Clinical Informatics Fellowship and a Clinical Director for Health IT at the intersection of primary care and population health, health system operations, electronic health record optimization, clinical decision support, and health professions education.

Dr. Genkins completed medical school at Vanderbilt University, Internal Medicine residency at UCSF, and Clinical Informatics Fellowship at Stanford University. His professional interests include clinical decision support, process improvement in the delivery of health IT, responsible use of artificial intelligence in healthcare, population health informatics, and incorporating informatics and AI education at all levels of physician training. In this latter area, he serves as Program Director of the Vanderbilt Clinical Informatics Fellowship and leads AI and clinical informatics education within the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine Foundations of Professional Responsibility curriculum, helping prepare future physicians to use health information technology and AI safely, effectively, and responsibly. Outside of work, he enjoys running, soccer, science fiction, and spending time with his family and dogs.
