Mollie Hobensack, PhD, RN, NI-BC
Dr. Mollie Hobensack is a nurse-scientist and National Library of Medicine T15 Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Biomedical Informatics at Vanderbilt Health. Her developing program of research uses a learning health system approach to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) into clinical practice to augment interdisciplinary decision making, patient safety, and healthcare delivery. She has clinical experience as a geriatric medical-surgical nurse and earned her PhD from Columbia University School of Nursing where her dissertation leveraged natural language processing and machine learning to predict hospitalization among older adults in home healthcare. She then worked in operations for Mount Sinai's Brookdale Department of Geriatrics and Palliative Medicine. Building on this foundation, she joined VCLIC for her postdoctoral training to develop her expertise in applied clinical informatics. Her current research focuses on advancing learning health systems through AI across three interconnected themes: 1) transforming clinician-generated data into actionable knowledge, 2) developing AI systems that strengthen human-AI collaboration, and 3) evaluating the impact of AI systems on clinician and patient outcomes.
