Stephen Gradwohl, MD, MSCI, MS-ACI

Stephen Gradwohl, MD, MSCI, MSACI, is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and an attending pediatric emergency physician at Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt. He is board certified in Pediatric Emergency Medicine and Clinical Informatics.

His work focuses on the design, implementation, and evaluation of technology that improves clinical decision-making and care delivery. He leads projects involving AI-enabled clinical decision support, EHR integration, antimicrobial stewardship, and clinical education and assessment. His research examines how these technologies perform in real clinical settings, from initial development and validation through implementation and evaluation of their impact on clinical practice.

Dr. Gradwohl is particularly interested in advancing clinical informatics beyond traditional rules and alerts toward systems that can interpret clinical context and provide more individualized support. Drawing on his experience in emergency medicine, informatics, and clinical research, he works across clinical, technical, and operational teams to develop and evaluate tools that address practical challenges in healthcare.
